Peri Rx uses only high-quality, evidence-based ingredients at the correct dose to ensure you get the most out of your training.  Shouldn’t your pre-workout supplement work as hard as you do?

The New Formula

We’ve recently reformulated Peri Rx based on changing scientific evidence. Here’s what’s in each serving now compared to what was in the OLD formulation (in parentheses):

  • 8 grams of citrulline malate to enhance muscle protein synthesis (4g before)
  • 5 grams of creatine monohydrate to increase energy, cellular hydration, improve performance, and recovery (2.5g before)
  • 6.4 grams of beta alanine for increased work capacity and volume tolerance (3.2g before)
  • Beet root concentrate to yield 500mg nitrates and 12.5mg betalains to complement creatine’s effect on increasing cellular hydration, improve performance, and recovery   (500mg beet root powder before)
  • No essential amino acids (EAAs) (10 grams before)
  • Manufactured in a facility that is compliant with Current Good Manufacturing Processes (CGMP)
  • Peri Rx is batch-tested by Informed Sport to ensure you’re getting exactly what’s on the label with no adulterants or contaminants

Overall, we’ve changed Peri Rx to be a more traditional pre-workout supplement instead of a “pre-” and “post-” workout supplement. To make this change, we’ve doubled the dose of citrulline malate, creatine, and beta alanine because it’s no longer a twice-a-day supplement. This means the supplement will last twice as long compared to before (now 30-days), as it contains 30 servings and is designed to be taken every day. We even kept the price the same!

How Does it Stack Up?

When do I take it?

  • Take it 20-30 min prior to your workout to use as a pre-workout, otherwise take it once per day whenever.
  • Ideally, this supplement is taken every day. On days you don’t work out, we would recommend consuming it at a time you would normally exercise.

Why is there no caffeine?

Caffeine is a great potential performance aid for some, but we purposely made a version without it so folks would have a caffeine-free option. The beneficial dose of caffeine is different for everyone based on their weight, tolerance, and what kind of workout you’re doing.

Even for people who prefer caffeine before a workout, note that the performance-enhancing dose is anywhere from 3 to 9 milligrams per kilogram body weight. You can see that such a wide range in dosing in and of itself could problematic when designing a supplement for the general population.

Why the New Formula?

We made the dosing frequency change because the data on essential amino acid (EAA) supplementation continued to show that it wasn’t really doing anything for folks consuming enough protein in their typical diet, e.g. 1.4 to 1.6 grams of protein per kilogram body weight. In essence, adding more protein on top of this in the form of EAAs was adding Calories, but not gainzZz™.

Additionally, the price of protein has increased substantially. Keeping the EAAs in the supplement would’ve significantly increased the price for no benefit for those already consuming enough protein. The average protein intake in the US is ~ 1.1 to 1.2 grams per kilogram bodyweight per day, so anyone who is even remotely trying to eat a little more protein is unlikely to benefit from a pre workout supplement that includes EAAs or more protein.

We also completely re-tooled the beet root content. In the previous supplement, there was 500mg of beet root, which was supposed to contain ~ 1.25g of betaine (aka TMG) in order to yield 2.5g daily (when taken twice per day). This is the dose used in most studies where exercise performance and exercise-induced adaptations are shown to increase with betaine supplementation compared to placebo.

The problem is run-of-the-mill beet root extract is not as consistent as we’d like for providing this dose of betaine. Additionally, new data has emerged showing another compound within beet root, called betalains, also appears to uniquely improve workout performance and aid in recovery efforts compared to placebo when administered at a dose of 12.5mg per day. Trying to achieve this dose with “off the shelf” beet root is next to impossible, again because the content of beet root is just not standardized.

So, we switched to a new supplier for beet root concentrate, who purifies and tests each batch of beet root extract for the concentration of betaine and betalains to achieve the doses mentioned above. This required a lot of leg work and back-and-forth to finalize a deal, but we did it and there are very few other manufacturers doing this. Plenty will sell you a supplement with beet root extract, but not many can guarantee you the correct dosing you actually want from it.
